I thought I would take a minute and write a little post that is more humorous than anything else. A little off topic than usual but hopefully still an enjoyable read for you.

I don’t know about how things go at your house, but at mine, if you don’t have coffee, you can go a little batty!

I wake up at the crack of dawn every morning with my one year old and 3 yr old. I am on the go until midnight every night and if I manage to see a night with more than 5 or 6 hours of sleep, I feel like I am in heaven!

There are several types of coffee that I have sampled over the years. There is instant coffee, Ground Coffee, flavored coffee, and decaf coffee. Years ago I used to work in a coffee shop and found the secret to taking out the bitterness for your brewed coffee is just a pinch of salt in your grinds before the water seeps on through it. Works like a charm.

I recently was diagnosed with diabetes and not being able to have sugar in my coffee, I definitely appreciate being able to take the bitterness out of my coffee so I can drink it. Ground coffee by far goes the longest way and if kept securely in a nice dark, dry area, it will last a long time.(I even keep mine in the freezer)

I strongly believe that one of the best kept secrets to running a successful business from home and raising some rowdy children, is a constant supply of freshly brewed coffee!

I have a one year old and three year old. Both of my boys get bored way too easy(they take after me unfortunately). Because of this, I am always looking for new educational toys that will both help them learn something new and keep them entertained.

There are a few things I like to consider when choosing.

1. I want something that both boys are not going to be able to wreck. I bought 2 versions of laptops by 2 separate manufacturers. My boys step on the computers, beat on the keyboards, slam the case lid down, and toss them off the couch when they no longer want to use them. Not to mention fight over them. These have stood up to the test of time so far.

2. They need to be able to capture their attention and make them want to practice, Educational kids toys regardless of whether they are meant to encourage their imagination, help with their hand eye coordination, help them count, teach them colors, or teach them to play and share with others. If something is too hard or does not have enough bells and whistles to it, then my children will not stay involved for very long.
As with the problem of the laptops that I bought, one was meant for a 4 or 5 years old with games such as counting the dots on the page, punching in the letter of the alphabet that certain words start with, and other more advanced math problems. My children love to turn it on and play the music, and create a tune from the musical notes but once that is done, the fun is over. The rest is too complicated for them. The second laptop although meant for 3 year olds, is great for my one son who loves to find the toys and animals and match them to their sounds and such, but it is too advanced for my 1 yr old. He just like to open and close the case and hear the machine say “good-bye” so he can wave.

3. Is it cost effective? A lot of the Educational kids toys that are on the market today take a ton of batteries. I don’t want to be buying something that eats batteries every day. For example, the laptops run on 4 AA batteries. These can last up to 6 months. My 3yr old also has a remote control school bus, and although he loves to maneuver it all over the house, over rocks, under tables and through the flowerbed, this machine eats 2 big C batteries every week. There is no sense investing in a toy that will just end up sitting unused on a shelf for months on end because you can’t afford to keep replacing the batteries.

There are many other things to consider and evaluate when looking for a new educational kids toy to help your child learn and grow. These are just a few things that I have had to consider before buying things for my two little ones. As long as you take the time to review the product to see if it is stable, ask around and see if any friends you know have the item and see what they say, you should be able to make an informed choice about the new purchase. If I am unsure of what to get, I will ask my 3 yr old what he likes and then look it over to see why it appealed to him.

It has been awhile since I went browsing around jobs on odesk.com. I write a tutorial last year on how to get work on odesk as a freelancer and was thinking that was a great place to find work.

Over the last year though, I have found so many other places to get jobs for a wage that you can live with. odesk.com may be a good site for graphic designers but not for virtual assistants, office workers or writers.
